Frequently Asked Questions

It’s never too early or too late to consider the type of support you or a loved one may require in the future. If you require or would like some assistance in your home, aged care residence or even just some short term help you could be eligible for My Aged Care.

It is as simple as a phone call to My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 with your Medicare Card handy.

A face-to-face assessment will be arranged with a trained assessor who will come to your home. This assessor will then develop a support plan with the services that can support you based on your needs, goals and preferences.

My Aged Care and other service providers can then tell you about any other additional costs involved in line with the types of care that you are eligible for.

Consumer-directed care means that you have the freedom and choice to select the types of services you require, who provides the service and when you wish for these services to occur. You can even select who is going to manage the finances associated with your My Aged Care package and see the regular budgets and statements from your service provider.

There are 4 levels based on the type of care and services that you require. The higher the level, the more funding that is provided.

The four Home Care package levels are:

  • Level 1 – Basic care needs
  • Level 2 – Low-level care needs
  • Level 3 – Intermediate care needs
  • Level 4 – High-level care needs

The Commonwealth Home Support Program has been designed for those that require low-level and basic care needs such as delivered meals, personal care or home maintenance. If your needs change you could be referred to a Home Care Package.

There are lots of other options you can use to meet your support needs as you get older, including friends and family, community support programs, or you may have some savings you could use to access some basic support. There are many other funded programs in the community you could access, simply call My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 or us on 1300 935 417 for more information.
